Twitter can be a great asset for your blog and business. It’s a social media account that is easy to grow, and can help you land some great opportunities. Read on to find out how you can grow your Twitter following in five simple steps.

5 Tips to Grow your Twitter Following

1. Make it easy to follow you from your blog.

Many of your blog visitors will follow you on Twitter, if they like your content. Make sure you have social media icons prominently displayed in your sidebar – toward the top is ideal. On WordPress, you can use Simple Social Icons plugin to add these. Or you can visit Twitter and get a widget to add to your sidebar.

Also, include tweet icons in each blog post, so you can increase the shares and follows you receive.

Social Share Icons

Shareaholic is a great WordPress plugin that will add Twitter and several other social share buttons to the top and/or bottom of every post (I recommend adding in both locations). What I really like about Shareaholic, is that you can set it up to suggest that your visitors follow you on social media after they share your post.

2. Stay active on Twitter.

If you want a following on Twitter, you can’t just create your account and never return. Share your blog posts, other sites’ articles, funny memes, or inspirational quotes. A mix of media like this will make you more interesting, so others will want to follow you.

Bonus tip: Use popular hashtags so your tweets will be seen! Trending hashtags can be found in the left bar of your homepage.

3. Interact and engage.

Interacting with those you are following will put you out there for more users to find and follow. You can @ reply, favorite, or retweet your followers to start a conversation. Try to do this at least twice a day to maximize your exposure to other Twitter users, and gain more followers.

To @ reply, simply click the arrow beneath the time and date, write your message and click “Tweet”. To retweet, click the arrows that make a rectangle (green in the picture). To favorite, click the heart.

4. Participate in Twitter parties/chats.

There are many Twitter events each week that you can join in on to get more followers. The Biannual Blogation Bash has six Twitter chats going on this weekend! Many brands host Twitter parties to get their products out there on Twitter. Join these and interact with other party attendees to get more follows.

5. Follow other users every day.

Making it a habit of following a few Twitter followers each day will, in return, get you more followers. Many fellow bloggers, especially, will reciprocate the following so everyone grows. Take time to follow 20-50 people every day.

Following can be done manually, or you can use a tool such as ManageFlitter to increase your Twitter following. I have been using it successfully since October, and have grown my following from 12,400 in October 2015 to 14,700 followers just three months later.

ManageFlitter to Grow Twitter Following

ManageFlitter makes it easy to follow users based on keywords or to find followers that are following similar bloggers. You can set up filters so you don’t follow spammy or inactive accounts, which aren’t good for your Twitter growing efforts.

  1. Thanks for the challenge. I love doing Twitter chats and have hosted quite a few for the Reading challenge I co-host. I think it’s the best way to find new followers with similar interests. I completed the challenge, you can find me at @momsvictories.
