Archive for My Journey

January Recap

January didn’t go exactly as I planned, but I figured I would need to tweak my goals here and there as I moved into 2011. I am still primarily on upfront pay freelance writing, which is the biggest reason for not getting anything completed. Overall, I am satisfied with my accomplishments for the month.

Adsense

My goal was to get 2 A100K Blueprint sites up and running. I only managed to get up completely up. I have the domain registered, and will be working on it in February. There is no income coming in from the first site yet, but I have started getting backlinks and creating lots of content for it.

My Adsense goal for February is to launch the second site I have planned, and begin the keyword/niche research for a third site that will launch in March.

PLR

This is where I really dropped the ball. I didn’t do a thing in regards to my PLR store, and I am really aggravated at myself for that. I still have the keywords that I was going to work on in January, so I will carry them over into this month.

My PLR goal for February is to create 1 report and at least 4 article packs.

BrightHub

As I mentioned in my mid-January update, I completed this goal. I wrote the 5 articles that I wanted to, but didn’t get to building links back to them. I may put that off for now, just so I have more time for PLR.

My BrightHub goal for February is to publish 5 articles…which is still the maximum for my account.

Earnings

The only earnings I can report for this month is the $50 from the 5 BrightHub articles. I hope to have at least some Adsense income coming in this month, as well as some PLR sales.

Progress Update – 1st Half of January 2011

The new year is flying by! We have had so much happen that I am finding it difficult to get everything done this month. My husband and I came back from vacation with nasty colds on December 30, which made us miserable for the first week of 2011. Then last week, we were hit with about 10 inches of snow here in Georgia. Luckily, we never lost power, but I wanted to build snowmen and have snowball fights rather than work! However, I have gotten a little bit of my goals completed, and I still have 15 more days in January to accomplish the rest.

Adsense – This is the area that I’m balking on at the moment. I don’t know why it’s so difficult for me to just pick a group of keywords, get a domain, set up a site, and start writing content. The part that is really holding me back is keyword research. My perfectionism is showing here, as I want to spend hours and hours find the perfect keywords that will earn me a killing. The truth is, no words are going to earn me any money unless I choose some and go with them! I do plan to start building at least one Adsense site by the end of the month.

PLR – I have some keyword sets picked out for my the packs I want to release this month. I am not completely sure I can get 5 packs out this month, but I will be doing my best.

BrightHub – I have written my 5 articles for the month, and they have been approved. Therefore, the rest of the month will be spent promoting the 20 articles I currently have up on BrightHub.

I’m still doing freelance writing for upfront pay at the moment, which is also taking time away from my residual income/IM efforts. Hopefully there will be less upfront and more residual in the coming months!

Goals for 2011

As I mentioned in the last post, I have been mapping out my goals for the upcoming year. I feel that these can easily be obtained by December 31, 2011, as long as I keep working at the passive income ventures I will be implementing.

Adsense

First, I will be working on Adsense sites. I am using the Adsense 100K Blueprint by Michael Ullman and Adam Franklin. If you are trying to make money with Adsense and have been failing, I recommend you try this blueprint. There is a guide, videos, and a forum that will give you tremendous support. Michael is a great marketer who is focused on giving his customers as much help as possible. I do not know much about Adam yet, but from what I’ve seen in the forum, he is just has considerate as Michael. I have tried my hand at Adsense before and failed, but I think I can make it work this time around.

So for the Adsense sites, I plan to:

  • Start with building two sites in January. I am doing this so that I can have two different topics to work on at once. I will begin by doing all the work myself, so I don’t want to burn myself out on writing content for one site.
  • Each month of 2011, I will create a new Adsense site following A100KB. I will begin to outsource once I get some money coming in. I hope to start outsourcing some of the tasks by March.
  • When a site is 90 days old, I will look at the income it is producing. If it looks promising, I will hold onto it. If not, I will flip it.
  • Income goal for my Adsense sites by the end of 2011: $2000/month.

Selling PLR

Selling PLR is just a fun concept for me. I get to write about what I want, and sell it again and again. Thanks to Tiffany Dow’s PLR ATM, I have set up my own PLR store and have a few packs for sale. I have been getting hits, but have yet to make a sale from my site. The WSO I ran for holiday related packs did okay though.

So, for my PLR, I plan to:

  • Create a minimum of 5 packs per month.
  • I will continue to create PLR article packs, but I also want to branch out into reports and ebooks.
  • Work on getting more traffic to the sites. I will do this by running special WSO’s, continuing to blog about each pack I release, and maybe even do some article marketing on the topic of PLR.
  • Income goal for my PLR store by the end of 2011: $1000/month

BrightHub

BrightHub is a combination of a content mill and residual income opportunity. You can write for specific channels (topics), and some come with an upfront payment of $10 per article. All articles you write are eligible for residual income. I currently have 10 articles up, and hope to increase that in the new year.

So, my goals for BrightHub are:

  • Write at least 5 new articles each month
  • Promote my articles, since the residual income is paid based on page views.
  • No set income goals for this venture, but I will at least get $50/month from the upfront payments.

Summary

Overall, I hope to be bringing in $3000/month in residual income by the end of 2011. This is more than enough money to supplement my husband’s income so that my family and I can live comfortably, and then I won’t have to sit in front of my computer for 8-10 hours of each day.

Each month, I will reflect back on these goals to make sure I am staying on track with them. Of course, they are subject to change once I begin implementing them and finding out what works best for me.

Turning Over a New Leaf

I haven’t spend any time on this blog in a while, but I need something to make me more accountable. I have been thinking about my online goals for 2011, and I need a place to be more accountable. A lot of people have blogs in which they post their plans and earnings so they can see how well they are doing with the online business. I have not been doing this, but I think it would help me tremendously.

Therefore, I moved my blog from my writing portfolio site to its own domain so that it would be more of a stand alone blog. With it, I will be mapping out what I want to do in the new year and how I plan to get there. Each month, I will update my earnings page and make a post talking about the previous month, including the good and bad of my business. I think by putting this information in black and white, I’ll be able to know how to go about my online journey the following month.

As you can see from previous posts, I’m currently a freelance writer. I hope to make the transition to passive income so that I will have more time to spend with my family and friends. If you have a blog similar to mine, please leave a comment so that I can check it out. I look forward to making new friends who work online and are working towards building a nice passive income.
